SnowShoeing Ski Cooper

When the ski resorts aren’t quite ready to open is when it’s the perfect time to go snowshoe the routes. Ski Cooper had a perfect amount of snow to skin or snowshoe up to the top of the first ski life and then ski down all the way back down to the parking lot. To hike to the top took me just about an hour and 15 min, but it depends on your pace. Some skin up the route in just under an hour. I think my time was bit slow because of stopping to catch my breath. Living in the foothills of colorado the lunges got some good exercise snowshoeing up here in Ski Cooper. There were other people out, but everyone goes at their own pace and the views are just amazing. Up at the top there was a ski cabin that was open to warm up in, but it was a sunny day so it was comfortable to recover outside and take in the views before heading back down.

If it’s a sunny day like today make sure you bring your sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat. You’ll get toasty going up, but either way you’ll need sun protection! This route is short enough and enjoyable to easily do two laps of hiking up and skiing back down. Dogs are totally welcomed and they really seemed to enjoy the run back down. I’m sure you could still snowshoe or skin up during ski season, but I’d leave the dogs at home and just be cautious to stay to the side of the runs.
